When you travel to Epic Universe, you're not locked into any one lodging option. There are three major options: On-site hotels, off-site hotels, and short-term vacation rentals. Each has its own pros and cons, which we'll discuss below:
On-Site Hotels
Description: The Helios Grand, Stella Nova, and Terra Luna are hotel options on the Universal Studios Orlando property.
Pros: The travel time is next to zero, especially if you stay at the Helios Grand. Additionally, some bookings can include Express Passes.
Cons: You'll have to pay for the convenience, and fit into a smaller space.
Off-Site Hotels
Description: Orlando is home to many hotel options that are within driving distance of the Epic Universe park.
Pros: These options are easier to afford and make it easier to do non-Universal activities.
Cons: You'll have a drive time (plus parking) to get to Epic Universe, and you'll be arriving later than the people who stayed on-site
Short-Term Vacation Rentals
Description: Smaller scale rentals, often of a room or house.
Pros: You can enjoy additional privacy, possibly get access to a kitchen, and often get the largest amount of space.
Cons: Quality levels can vary, and you will be more responsible for maintaining the space.

How long should an Epic Universe vacation be?
The ideal length of time depends on what your goals are for the trip. If you only want to see your top attractions, you can probably do so in 1 day. To visit everything, you'll want at least 2 days in the park.
Another popular option is to extend your trip for a full Universal Orlando vacation. Spending 5-6 days gives you enough time to explore all of the parks, and possibly some of the other parts of Orlando.
How do I determine the right time for my Epic Universe vacation?
When you visit Epic Universe should reflect what you value most in your vacation. Regarding time of year, you'll want to think about crowds, events, and deals.
Less popular times of year generally offer better promotions, and shorter wait times. However, if you care about special events and/or your schedule restricts it, higher-demand seasons might be your only option.
If you have the flexibility, you should also decide which day of the week best fits your needs. As a rule of thumb, Sundays are often the least crowded while Mondays are the most crowded – keep in mind, though, that these are variable and can be subject to the particulars of any given day.
Does the Epic Universe theme park allow you to bring in food?
As a general rule, you cannot bring food into Universal theme parks. That said, there are limited circumstances where you can: Park policy allows you to bring in up to 2 liters of bottled water, and food in limited circumstances (such as to accommodate dietary restrictions).
If you are allowed to bring in food, you'll face restrictions on the size of your cooler as well (up to the size of 8.5"x6"x6" is allowed). Regardless of your food situation, you are allowed to bring in a refillable water bottle.
Are there places to fill your water bottle at Epic Universe?
Yes! There are a variety of water bottle refilling stations available within Epic Universe, and they are free to use.
But even if you don't have a water bottle, you don't have to be dehydrated. The dining areas around the park will give you free water cups.
Can I wear a backpack in Epic Universe?
It's allowed (and even a good idea) to bring a bag or a backpack on your trip to Epic Universe. It will have to go through security and needs to pass an inspection before entry.
One thing to consider is how big of a pack to bring with you. Because several of the rides don't allow packs, you'll want something that you can store in a locker if necessary. These lockers use photo validation technology to provide a seamless locker experience.
Is Epic Universe cash-free?
Epic Universe is not a cash-free park. While Universal's Volcano Bay went cashless in February of 2026, this has not yet extended to other parks at the resort.
Some people still prefer to avoid cash in Epic Universe, particularly for food. The app allows you to order ahead of time and skip the line.
How early should you arrive at Epic Universe?
If you can, you should try to get to the park half an hour early. Generally, the park will open at 10:00 in the morning, while letting people with Early Park Admission in an hour early (keep in mind that park hours are variable).
When planning your schedule, don't forget to account for travel time and getting through security.
