Where to Stay for Your Epic Universe Trip
When you travel to Epic Universe, you're not locked into any one lodging option. There are three major options: On-site hotels, off-site hotels, and short-term vacation rentals. Read on to learn the advantages and disadvantages of each:
On-Site Hotels
Description: On-site hotels like the Helios Grand, Stella Nova, and Terra Luna are all owned and operated by Universal and are located on-property at the resort.
Pros: Because they are on-site, these options have the lowest travel time, and allow for early park admission. You may also get a deal for Express Passes.
Cons: These tend to be more expensive options, and most rooms aren't very large.
Off-Site Hotels
Description: Orlando is home to many hotel options that are within driving distance of the Epic Universe park.
Pros: Off-site hotels are often more affordable and give you easier access to the general Orlando area.
Cons: It will take additional logistics to travel to the theme park, and you'll likely get less time in the park
Short-Term Vacation Rentals
Description: Direct rentals from owner, rather than a larger hotel or chain.
Pros: If you care about privacy, this is often a way to get away from the crowds at hotels.
Cons: Quality levels can vary, and you will be more responsible for maintaining the space.
Boise, ID, Epic Universe Vacation Planning FAQs
How long does it take to fully explore Epic Universe?
If you want to fully explore Epic Universe, you should plan to spend at least 2 days in the park. If you're fine just visiting the highlights, you can explore it in 1 day.
The other thing to consider is if you want to do anything besides visit Epic Universe as a part of your trip. You can spend more time in the other parks, and/or exploring the Orlando area.
When is the best time to visit Epic Universe?
When you visit Epic Universe should reflect what you value most in your vacation. Regarding time of year, you'll want to consider high volume areas, events, and available promotions.
If your top priority is avoiding the crowds, look for low-demand time periods with better discounts. On the other hand, higher-demand seasons may have higher prices, but also more special events and (typically) easier scheduling.
Different days of the week also offer different advantages and disadvantages. As a rule of thumb, Sundays are often the least crowded while Mondays are the most crowded – this is highly variable, though, and can be subject to weather, special events, and more.
Does the Epic Universe theme park allow you to bring in food?
As a general rule, you cannot bring food into Universal theme parks. But there are a few instances where food and/or drink is permitted: Park policy allows you to bring in up to 2 liters of bottled water, as well as food required for medical reasons, special dietary needs, and/or baby food.
Coolers also face restrictions: Only a soft-sided cooler smaller than 8.5"x6"x6" is allowed. Whether or not you're bringing in a cooler, it is a good idea to bring in a refillable water bottle.
Are there places to fill your water bottle at Epic Universe?
Yes! Epic Universe makes it easy to stay hydrated during your time in the park. If you remember your water bottle, there are several water refill stations scattered throughout the park.
If you don't have a water bottle, most of the park's dining locations will also have free water cups available.
Can I wear a backpack in Epic Universe?
Bags and backpacks are allowed within Epic Universe. It will have to go through security and needs to pass an inspection before entry.
One thing to consider is how big of a pack to bring with you. Because several of the rides don't allow packs, you'll want something that you can store in a locker if necessary. These lockers use facial recognition technology to provide a seamless locker experience.
Is Epic Universe cash-free?
Epic Universe is not a cash-free park. While Universal's Volcano Bay went cashless in February of 2026, this has not yet extended to other parks at the resort.
The key thing to keep in mind is that ordering with cash may result in longer waits than ordering through the app, at least for food. The app allows you to order ahead of time and skip the line.
Should I arrive at the park before opening?
To avoid the lines as much as possible, try to be at the gates 30 minutes early. The park formally opens around 10:00 AM, with Early Park Admission an hour beforehand (keep in mind that park hours are variable).
Be sure to include extra time for transit and security.
As soon as people get in, they tend to go to the most popular rides. There are two general strategies parkgoers have: try to beat the crowd by rushing to your favorite ride, or visit less popular attractions and return to the others when the line is shorter.
