There are a lot of new things to see and do in Galaxy’s Edge, and while lightsaber building has been around for some time at the exit of Star Tours, the new Lightsaber building experience at Savi’s Workshop is completely different. This experience will set each builder back approximately $199 “Credits” (as they’re referred to when paying for anything in Galaxy’s Edge) plus tax. Reservations are required and each builder can be accompanied by one additional adult or child. Like many reservations throughout the Disney Parks, there is also a 24-hour cancelation policy. If the reservation isn’t canceled before that time or if there is a no show, the full cost of the experience will be charged to the card you have on file. I suggest arriving about 10 minutes early to check-in for your reservation. Once you have checked in, you will be given a menu that lists the choices available for your lightsaber. Each type consists of different high-quality pieces and there is no mixing of parts from different categories. The 4 Saber choices are as follows; Peace and Justice, Power and Control, Elemental Nature, and Protection and Defense.
Like everything in Galaxy’s Edge, you will be completely immersed in the Star Wars story once inside the workshop. We found the workshop to be a darker space which is perfect to see how brightly your lightsaber shines once built. The cast member leading your group will provide the relics needed to build a lightsaber from the category you have chosen from the menu. The cast member will also explain the meaning and purpose behind the relics and a little history on each. We chose to build the Peace and Justice lightsaber, which would be like that of Obi-Wan Kenobi or Luke Skywalker. Part of this custom experience is choosing your Kyber Crystal. Kyber Crystals are what give each lightsaber its color and characteristics. The cast member leading your experience will go over the meanings behind each color with your group. One crystal is included with your purchase but you may purchase as many crystals as you like in the market. The crystals are relatively easy to swap out and each one gives your saber a different personality so-to-speak! Also included in your experience are a special pin and padded carrying case for your lightsaber. There are other carrying case options available at Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities.
We chose to build our lightsaber first thing in the morning. If you choose a reservation for early in the day, I highly recommend having one person in your party return the lightsaber to your resort room. It is unclear if resort shipping is available for the lightsabers. It was not offered directly at Savi’s Workshop at this time. It’s a little cumbersome to carry around, not to mention impossible to take on most rides and attractions. Although it is in a padded case, it is somewhat fragile so you will likely not want to carry it all day but you can remove the “blade” and just carry the hilt of your lightsaber if you really want to “Nerd” it up!
