Since the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Walt Disney World and Disneyland, Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run has been one of the most popular attractions. On this immersive attraction, guests can take flight on the iconic ship along with a team of five other passengers, each of which has their own designated duty (pilots, gunners, and engineers), in order to complete their smuggling mission. You and a crew of pilots, gunners, and engineers can embark on a smuggling mission through space inside Han Solo’s famous ship.
While aboard, your team is assigned a mission with the help of Han Solo’s pal, Chewbacca, and pirate Hondo Ohnaka. Your goal is to acquire as much coaxium as possible and smuggle it back to the base. TRUE Star Wars fans will love a hidden “easter egg” within this attraction as you unlock “CHEWIE MODE”, which allows you to turn off Hondo Ohnaka and get a full experience with just Chewbacca throughout the entire mission! In order to unlock this special feature, everyone in the cockpit must push certain buttons in a specific order within a certain time frame. My family was successful on our most recent flight and we loved having Chewie with us on our entire mission.
Unlocking The Secret Chewbacca Mode
If you want to have all of the Chewbacca sound effects the next time you board the Millennium Falcon, follow these step by step instructions.
Pilots
Typically, guests activate their positions right away. In order to unlock the secret Chewbacca mode, do NOT do this. Instead, the left and right pilots must push their controls to the extreme left/right or extreme up/down and hold that position. After this is done, then you can hit your activate button.
Gunners and Engineers
Gunners and engineers must hit one of the white buttons on your console BEFORE hitting the orange activation buttons. (Very similar to hitting the SHIFT key on a keyboard).
Special Note
All of this must be completed BEFORE the Disney Cast Member has finished checking your seatbelts and launches the attraction.
We recommend you enjoy this attraction a few times before attempting “Chewie” mode. Unless you understand Wookie, you might have a hard time making out Chewbacca’s instructions and successfully flying Smuggler’s Run if it’s your first time.
