For families like mine, the Disability Assistance Service has allowed us to navigate and enjoy the many attractions and characters throughout Walt Disney World. My oldest son was diagnosed at birth with Fragile X Syndrome, the leading cause of inherited intellectual disability and the leading known single-gene cause of autism. Although he enjoys all that Walt Disney World has to offer, it can quickly overwhelm him. My family is incredibly appreciative of this service. Disney Parks recently updated the registration process and usage guidelines. This blog will help highlight the recent updates. What is the Disability Assistance Service (DAS)? A service intended to accommodate only those Guests who, due to a developmental disability like autism or similar disorder are unable to wait in a conventional queue for an extended time. Disneyland is known for being the original family theme park- for classic characters and attractions that we all know and love. Disneyland’s Pixar Fest is a new, in-park experience with some of the more recent characters you love in the most magical of settings- Disneyland Park and Disney’s California Adventure. From now until August 4, you can catch your favorite Pixar characters at several specially themed events daily. Going to Walt Disney World on an adults-only trip is an experience that must be enjoyed by all Disney fans. While you may miss the children for a few moments, there are some great experiences that you must try with your significant other or best friends. Here are some of my favorite activities on an adults-only trip. Jellyrolls – A dueling piano bar located on the Boardwalk, Jellyrolls is the place to hang out with your friends and enjoy top entertainment. Virgin Voyages has unique, immersive, and cultural experiences at every port! In Cozumel, you can venture to Mayan ruins at Chichen Itza, swim and sun at the blue beaches, experience scenic tours, or taste food and drink perfected by this culture. We chose to book a Shore Thing called “Margaritas and Chocolate Mixology” that took us to the Mayaland Cacao Company where we would learn about the Mayan culture, the history of cacao and tequila, and indulge in our own hand made margaritas! This was a fantastic experience! Our tour guide, Roberto, met us at the end of the pier, and made us all feel welcome. This ‘shore thing’ capped at 12 guests, but our particular tour had only 8! This Deluxe resort is located on the monorail loop outside of Magic Kingdom and provides quick access to the theme park by both monorail and boat transportation. An exquisite 5-story-high atrium with glittering chandeliers, stained glass domes, and grand piano welcomes guests when you arrive at the Grand Floridian resort. I had the pleasure of eating at Maria and Enzo's on my most recent trip to Walt Disney World. It’s located at The Landing at Disney Springs. The eclectic ambiance is inspired by an old abandoned 1930s airline terminal which is transformed into an elegant restaurant. Upon entering the restaurant, you are greeted with lots of Art Deco theming and old airline memorabilia that makes you feel like you are ready to board the next Pam Am flight overseas. The main part of the restaurant is a two-story rotunda and it’s absolutely beautiful. It boasts amazing murals showcasing where this airport would have flown and lots of destination posters of that time period. Now let’s get to my favorite part...the food!
