The Magic of Bounce Back Offers

Disney's Best PromotionMaybe you have heard the term “bounce back” on Disney chat boards but aren’t quite sure what that means. If you are someone who would love to be able to visit Disney World every year but can’t quite fit it in your budget, this tip could help make it more possible to make that dream come true.

Hidden in the literature in your Disney resort room will be a special offer for current guests to book a future trip.  You will have to look for the flyer as it is usually tucked away with other resort information. (If you cannot find an offer in your room, you can call 407-939-1923 from your room and ask what bounce back offers are currently available). Offers will vary as will timeframes. It might include free dining, a room discount, or some other incentive.

Now, if you’re like me, you’re probably not carrying your calendar around with you while on vacation. That’s okay! Choose a date that you think might work for you, and place the required $200 deposit on the reservation. Once you return home and can check calendars and work or school schedules, you can call back and adjust the dates as long as they fit within the offer timeframes and assuming rooms are available for the new dates.

The key is you must book your trip BEFORE you check out by calling the number on the flyer from your room. (You can also have your travel specialist call for you, but you must still be checked in at a Disney property).

Disney's Best PromotionThe benefit of booking in advance with the Bounce Back offer is that you have the opportunity for a great discount that you can determine later if it works or doesn’t work for you. If it turns out that the trip won’t fit into your schedule at all, you can cancel the reservation up to 30 days prior to your check-in date with no penalty. If a new promotion is announced to the public, and either the dates or the promotion end up working out better for you, you can adjust the reservation.

Without promotions like these, many of us could not afford to take Disney vacations as often as we would like. This is an excellent way to save money on a future trip!

Extra tip: Did you work with your favorite travel planner for your current vacation? Great! You can book the Bounce Back offer and request that your travel planner be rolled over to the new reservation. (If you forgot to mention it while you were making the reservation, you can easily transfer it to your travel planner so he/she can continue to provide you with great planning services. Alert your travel planner upon you return home while the transfer window is still open).

Should I really stay and watch the fireworks? Walt Disney WorldDisney is without a doubt one of THE best vacation destinations to keep you entertained from the instant you open your eyes in your themed resort to the moment you walk out of the parks waving good-bye to Cast Members.

Throughout the day, you have rides, shows, street performers, parades, fabulous dining and snacks, and character meet and greets to entertain you.  That is enough excitement, right?  What about the fireworks?  Being so busy throughout the day, are they really worth staying to watch?  The answer is YES, YES, YES!

Disney Parks fireworks are like no other!  They are more than just beautifully colored explosions in the sky.  They tell a story, have a theme, include outstanding and memorable music, and put on a production that will keep you mesmerized from start to finish.  The fireworks are simply just ONE more added must see for Disney guests.

How can I stay late, the kids will be so tired!?!

We all know fireworks happen once it’s dark, so if you want to see them….simply plan for it!

I recommend arriving to the parks early in the morning before the crowds start and then take an afternoon break at your resort. {This is also when staying on property is extremely helpful! You can take a short ride back the resort without having to worry about parking!}

  • Swim
  • Nap
  • Have a relaxing drink
  • Get out of the sun and heat

This relaxation time will rejuvenate and prepare you for an amazing evening!

Plan the perfect spot to watch

Should I really stay and watch the fireworks? Walt Disney WorldHaving a great view of the fireworks will add to the enjoyment of watching them.  Many guests pick their favorite spots early, so you want to do the same.  As you wait, make this a fun part of your trip where you regroup as a family.  While you wait…

  • Grab your favorite Disney snacks
  • Talk about favorite attractions
  • Look at your Memory Maker pictures
  • Talk about the next days plans
  • Relive the funniest moments from your trip

Become Immersed

When the show starts, let yourself be transformed by the music, lights, projections and theming!  This is your chance sit back and enjoy some of the best entertainment on property.

What’s your rush?

As soon as the fireworks end, the masses start to head out of the park.  Sit and relax!  Let the crowds walk passed you.  You can take this opportunity to view the park in a less crowded state.  You may have a new appreciation for its details.  You could also stop for a nighttime photo with one of Disney’s PhotoPass photographers!

Which Disney Parks have Fireworks?

  • Magic Kingdom: Starting May 12th, 2017, Magic Kingdom will debut its newest fireworks show, “Happily Ever After”!  “Wishes” fireworks will end on May 11th.
  • Epcot: Epcot fireworks take place around World Showcase Lagoon and are properly name IllumiNations.

At Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground

If you are looking for something literally “off the beaten path” on your next Walt Disney World vacation, your search is over! The Tri-Circle-D Ranch at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground is perfect for the younger crowd and is the perfect place for memory making!

Tri-Circle-D at Disney Wilderness ResortBeing a local Floridian people think that we go to Disney every day. I’m sure that if it was up to my daughter we would!  However, in reality, and for the sake of the Magical experience becoming commonplace, we treat every trip like a mini vacation.  We stumbled upon the Tri-Circle-D Ranch on one of our many “staycations”.  My family of five found Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground to be perfect. Our cabin was a great fit for all five of us. Our cabin had a full kitchen and an eating area both inside and outside.  It had it all, from the rustic campground feel to all of the comforts of home.  We have made going to “The Cabins” as my family calls them, an annual tradition.

On one of yearly adventures, after breakfast (at Trail’s End Restaurant), we wandered over to the stables near the entrance of Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue. There were about five or six mini ponies walking along a path with riders and my daughter fell in love.

Tri-Circle-D at Disney Wilderness ResortWe found out there was only a small fee (currently $8.00 a ride). We were hooked! Now, we can’t pass up the chance to visit the ponies at the Tri-Circle-D Ranch every year we visit! This is one of our favorite places to make memories.

The Tri-Circle-D Ranch is located near Pioneer Hall.  It is perfect for pint sized pony enthusiasts (at least 2 years old and under 80 pounds and under 48 inches). Your child will be able to ride a pony guided by parents or guardians around a fenced path.  The Pony Rides are open daily from 10am – 5pm and you don’t even need a reservation!

In addition, to the pony rides, they also have a state of the art playground for the kids. This is perfect way to keep the kids busy as you wait for your dining reservation. There are many delicious dining locations nearby including Trail’s End Restaurant, Mickey’s Backyard BBQ, and Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue.

Tri-Circle-D at Disney Wilderness Resort

So, if you are looking for a relaxing alternative or a break from the Parks for a few hours, Tri-Circle-D Ranch at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground is just the place to hang your hat!

If you’re a craft loving, DIY’er like me a fun way to add some magic to your approaching Disney vacation is to make your own Disney lanyard.  These lanyards can be used for multiple things on your Disney vacation:

  • As a pin trading lanyard (click hyperlink to learn about Disney pin trading)
  • To hold your park tickets if you don’t have magic bands
  • To hold a photo pass card

Supplies Needed:

  • Your Favorite Disney RibbonFun DIY Disney Lanyard
  • Scissors
  • Big Clasps
  • Fabric Velcro Tabs (if you want pull away lanyards)
  • Clear Nail Polish or No Fray Check
  • Sewing Machine, Hot Glue Gun, or Thread and Needle
  • Pins
  • Name Tag Holder

Step One:

Go pick out your supplies.  I found super cute Disney ribbon at: JoAnne Fabrics (best selection), Wal-Mart, Michaels, and Hobby Lobby.

I found big clasps in the Jewelry making section of my local JoAnne fabrics but I am sure each of the craft stores have them.

Fray check and Velcro tabs can be located at craft stores or Wal-Mart. The plastic name tag holders can be found easily at Staples or Amazon.com.

Fun DIY Disney Lanyard Fun DIY Disney Lanyard Fun DIY Disney Lanyard

Step Two:

Measure how long you would like the lanyard (I usually cut mine at 36”).

Optional Step: I like to make tear away lanyards for safety.  Match up the two ends you cut and then cut the opposite end so that you have one ribbon in each hand that are the same length. If you decided to do this optional step you will now add Velcro tabs to the ends you just cut.

Step Three:

So that the ribbon does not fray you will now use the clear nail polish or the Fray check on each of the cut end of the ribbon. Let the liquid dry before moving on to step four.

Step Four:

After the Fray Check has dried now is the time to add the clasp.  To do this I’ve found it best to put the lanyard on so that you can make sure it lays right when it is worn.  Once you have verified there are no twists, take it off.  Holding the end that the clasp is going on you will put both ends together and fold it about ½”.  If you are using hot glue you will want to glue the fold.  At this point you will slide the clasp on and then make another fold about 1” over.  Then pin the fold in place.  If you are using hot glue you will again glue the fold (I also recommend putting in a few stitches just to make sure it holds).

Fun DIY Disney Lanyard Fun DIY Disney Lanyard Fun DIY Disney Lanyard

I used a sewing machine and that made it simple to sew the folds holding the clasp in place!  You then add the clear plastic name tag if you choose to use one and your lanyard is all ready for your Disney vacation!

Finish the lanyard and ready to go on your next Disney vacation? Contact a Me and The Mouse agent today!

Spring Break at Disney WorldSpring is a wonderful time of year to visit Walt Disney World. The weather is just about perfect- not too hot, not too cool. And who can forget all the flowers in bloom at the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival. But the one thing that may keep you away is Spring breakers! Don’t let that keep you from experiencing all the beauty of Walt Disney World in the spring. We have some helpful tips to help avoid lines and make you vacation magical.

  1. Be sure to book your hotel and dining early. By booking early, you are sure to get the resort you would like in the room category you are hoping for. If you are afraid you may miss out on a better price, don’t worry! The Me and The Mouse Travel agents will monitor your reservation for any promotions available during you stay and get that price applied if there is availability. Remember with Disney dining, reservations can be made up to 180 days in advance. Popular restaurants such as Cinderella’s Royal Table and Chef Mickey fill up early so booking at the 180 day mark will give you the best chance of getting that reservation.Spring Break at Disney World
  2. Take advantage of the FastPass system. FastPasses can be made 60 days ahead of time if you are staying on Walt Disney World property. This will save time waiting in line at some of the more popular attractions.
  3. Utilize the Magic Hours if you are staying on Walt Disney World property. Magic Hours are when one of the four theme parks either opens an hour early or stays open two hours later.
  4. Arrive early! By arriving at least 30 minutes before that park opens, you will be able to enjoy more attractions with shorter lines. Take a mid-day break and then head back out to the parks for the evening.
  5. If there is a second Fantasmic! Show or second parade, plan on attending that one. It is usually less crowded than the first one.
  6. Go to quick service restaurants at off times. For example, eat lunch around 11:00am or dinner around 4:00pm or after 8:00pm. The lines will be shorter and you will have an easier time finding a table.
  7. When leaving the theme parks at night, don’t rush to the buses with everyone else in the park. Take that time to get a snack and browse the shops. Spring Break at Disney World

So just because it’s Spring Break doesn’t mean you should avoid Disney World. It will just take some extra planning to make for a magical vacation. If the thought of all the planning scares you, contact a Me and The Mouse Travel agent and we will be happy to take the stress off you! If you’ve already begun planning, Me and The Mouse is able to have your reservations transferred to the company! We will be able to keep your previous choices, and help you decide your future decisions.

Inaugural 2017

This new Epcot festival debuted in January 2017.  The Festival of the Arts ran for 6 weeks from January 13-February 20, 2017 each weekend Friday-Monday.  There is so much to see, taste, and experience.  Everybody can get involved and become immersed in the art.  Disney makes it easy to get excited about art!

Disney Festival of the ArtsParticipating in the paint-by-numbers mural at the Expression Section sponsored by Glidden is interactive fun for the whole family.  Grab a sponge brush, small container of numbered paint, and step up to the mural to paint within the coordinating numbered squares.  This activity is so simple and so much fun! By making a small artistic contribution, you will be a part of something so much bigger. The end result is an amazingly huge mural!  Find your inner artist!

Disney Festival of the ArtsThe festival provides the opportunity to strike poses in larger-than-life walk-in paintings that Disney created for guests, inspired by famous artists.  Be a part of crossing the Delaware with George Washington.  Thanks to the Disney PhotoPass team, you will able to take home some unique, fun, unforgettable photos.

Disney Festival of the ArtsMany artists are on hand at booths to show off their work and talk to guest while having the opportunity to sell their art, including many Disney-inspired pieces.  When I attended, I was most impressed when I caught a glimpse of an amazing artist painting to music.  Starting with a blank white canvas, he created a masterpiece painting of Olaf from Disney’s Frozen by literally throwing paint at the canvas with his hands then using his hands to blend the paint.  It was so much fun trying to figure out what the end result would be as he continued to throw and blend the paint.
Disney Festival of the ArtsA festival at Epcot would not be complete without providing guests a culinary experience.  The Festival of the Arts allows guests to travel around Epcot’s World Showcase to sample cultural culinary delights similar to other Epcot festivals, but with more of an artistic flair.  The food at Epcot is always a highlight.

For entertainment, check out the Disney Broadway Concert Series featuring original performers from Disney Broadway musicals.

Contact a Me and The Mouse agent if you want help planning your trip to the Festival of the Arts in 2018. You won’t want to miss this new and unique festival!

Sweet, Savory and Scrumptious

Walt Disney World is full of amazing food. From full to quick service the options are endless. Today, I want to spend a little time on my favorite treats. Before I go any further, I first need to define what a treat is to me. When I’m on vacation anything I eat outside a meal is a treat and I like my treats! So anything from ice cream to a pretzel to a bratwurst is in my opinion, a treat! This blog post is for all of you food lovers out there, enjoy! Best Disney World Treats

Let’s start with the sweet treats! What may be the most famous refreshing dessert at Disney World is the Dole Whip. It can be found at the Polynesian Resort and in Adventureland at the Magic Kingdom. The Dole Whip is a cool creamy pineapple ice cream type dessert. I lean toward the float in which the Dole Whip is surrounded by pineapple juice! {Can I just say, #heavenly!} Staying in the Magic Kingdom, let’s next travel to Gaston’s Tavern. Here you will find a LeFou’s Brew which is an amazing slushy type drink that I can only describe as fruity and butterscotchy! You must get a warm cinnamon roll to go with your LeFou’s Brew.  This warm and delectable treat is anything but small and is certainly full of flavor!

Next it’s the savory treats! At Germany in Epcot, you will find a little stop next to the buffet entrance where you can pick up a German bratwurst covered in sauerkraut and paired with paprika chips. To most this is a meal but to me it’s often just a snack! You can top it with mustard and sit in one of the tables next to the shops. You will feel like you are in Germany! My next savory treat can be found at Disney Springs. It’s poutine! I didn’t really know what that was until I tried it at Disney. It’s big combination of french fries, cheese curds and gravy! It’s a yummy carb filled treat that again is more of a meal, but again I call it a snack!

Best Disney World TreatsFinally, it’s the scrumptious treats! What is a scrumptious treat you ask? Well, it’s the treats that I couldn’t fit into the other categories. I start with one of my all time favorite beers. For this, we again travel to Germany. At the front, you can find an amazing pretzel cart! There will find the Schöfferhofer Pink Grapefruit Hefeweizen. A refreshing light beer with a grapefruit twist! My other scrumptious treats are beer at Italy, beer at the United Kingdom, beer at Canada and well I think you get the point! Epcot is a beer lovers dream!

So that is my favorite Disney World treats! Well actually, it was only a few as it would take about 10 blogs to list all my favorite treats! If you are looking for some different options or in need of more suggestions, contact a Me and The Mouse agent today!

You’ve been working with your Me and the Mouse travel specialist to plan your families magical Disney vacation and it’s all set. You have your resort, tickets, dining – everything to make this a wonderful vacation for your family!  Now what?!?!  Looking at your Disney countdown calendar, you have months before your trip!  By starting some of these tips NOW, you can ensure your Disney vacation will be even more enjoyable!

  1. Start walking now!  One thing you can count on for your Disney trip is that you will be walking A LOT!  On my last 6 day trip, we logged 55 miles worth of steps onto our Fitbits!  I started doing my “Disney training” with my treadmill months before we left. Although, I was tired by the end of the days at Disney, I was able to keep up and really enjoy the long days!
  2. Buy good comfortable shoes well before your vacation so that you have the time to break them in. Disney is not the place you want to break in new shoes and realize they give you blisters {yikes!}!
  3. If you plan on taking a backpack into the parks, try walking around with it on and loaded up so that you can ensure that it will be comfortable for your days at Disney.
  4. Visit our Me and The Mouse Pinterest Page, here!. We have several great ideas for how to countdown to your trip and fun outfit ideas! Prepping for Disney
  5. Download the My Disney Experience app on your phone and use it before you go so you know where to find the information you will be looking for in the parks. The My Disney Experience app has all of your reservation information, park maps, Fastpass picks and times, your dining reservations. It also has all park info like hours, parade times, character times, and wait times.  It is an amazing resource to use while you are in the parks.
  6. Purchase a portable power bank to charge your phone while you are in the theme parks. These are life savers. Typically, people use their phone often in the parks taking pictures, using the My Disney Experience app, and posting photo’s for all their friends to see what a great time they are having and it eats away at the phones battery. You will also want your phone charged to be able to contact other members in your group in case you split up during the day.
  7. Do some research on food you would like to try while you are at Disney! Disney has some fantastic food and snack options {Dole whip, zebra cakes, school bread} that are must try’s while you are there!  If you need any help coming up with ideas, make sure to ask your Me and the Mouse agent they are sure to have plenty of ideas for you!!!
  8. If your family is planning on partaking in pin trading, you can purchase pins on eBay to fill your lanyards for trading in the parks. My kids really enjoy interacting with the cast members while trading their pins!
  9. Your travel specialist is a great resource of information! We have a great team and are ready to answer any questions that will help your family have an enjoyable and memorable Disney vacation. Feel free to contact a Me and The Mouse agent today!
