When it comes to transportation at Disney, you may envision a flying carpet, pumpkin carriage, or a sprinkle of pixie dust with happy thoughts. The Disney Resort is quite large at 39 square miles so when it comes to transporting the thousands of guests that visit daily, Disney has many options. Making sure you know the basics of their transportation options are very important. If you’ve been to Walt Disney World or Disneyland you probably have ridden the monorail and like me you probably remember your first ride. Mine came the summer before my sixth grade year. I remember it like it was yesterday. It was at Disneyland and we boarded at Tomorrowland. As we cruised around the park and over, what was then the Submarine Voyage ride, I was beyond thrilled and amazed. But what was this amazing ride in the sky that I was on? Little did this boy from Nebraska know that this incredible piece of technology opened on June 14, 1959. That’s right - 1959! Walt Disney loved technology and wanted a fun and innovative way to transport guests around the park. He hired Imagineer, Bob Gurr, to design the ALWEG Monorail. Many people associate going to Disney World with visiting the parks, but there is so much to do outside of the parks. In fact, our family has enjoyed a Disney vacation without ever stepping foot inside a park. It’s also great to build in non-park days to get in a little downtime between park days. There are a variety of activities to experience other than the fabulous pools located at your resort. Take a stroll around Disney Springs and browse the stores to purchase your souvenirs. One of the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique locations is right in Disney Springs so you can get your little princess ready for one of your princess dining experiences. Can you really get FREE things at Disney? You absolutely can, if you know where to look. I’m Celebrating Buttons Are you and your family celebrating something while visiting Walt Disney World? A Birthday? Anniversary? Family Reunion? Graduation? If you are, get your “I’m Celebrating Button” as soon as possible. Ask a Cast Member where to get yours. While wearing your button, you might find other “Magical Moments” may come your way. Driver’s License If you have a ticket for Magic Kingdom, visit the Tomorrowland Speedway and get an Official Tomorrowland Speedway Driver’s License signed by Mickey Mouse for kids or adults, just ask a Cast Member working at the Speedway.
