At Akershus Royal Banquet HallAkershus Royal Banquet Hall

Akershus Royal Banquet Hall is located at Epcot’s Norway Pavillion. It is a fantastic opportunity to meet and greet with Disney Royalty on your next Walt Disney World vacation.

Join the Disney Princesses for Storybook Dining inside a medieval castle setting in heart of Norway.  When you arrive, guests are immediately greeted by Belle in her gorgeous yellow ballgown.  Don’t worry, a Photopass photographer is present! This means you will have a fantastic photo on your Memory Maker photo account. You will be able to enjoy later and send out to family and friends.

Akershus Royal Banquet HallAfter your visit with Belle, guests are are seated in one of two rooms reminiscent of great hall inside a storybook castle.  On my most recent visit, our waiter Paal explained the menu and made suggestions from the menu.  At lunch and dinner, every Guest’s royal feast begins with a “Taste of Norway”. This features Scandinavian seafood, imported cheeses, cured and sliced meats, and a wide selection of salads and fruits.  I went with Paal’s suggestions of  Tradisjonell Kjøttkake  (Swedish meatballs), which was very good.

Akershus Royal Banquet Hall
As we dined, many of our favorite Disney Princeses circulated the restaurant and visited with each table.  The Princesses spent amble time with each table allowing for conversation and multiple photo opportunities. By the end of our meal, we were able to meet with Snow White, Aurora, Ariel and Mulan in addition to our formal picture time with Belle.  The Princesses also invite your own little Prince or Princesses to join in the fun. Your child will be able to join their Princess Parade through the restaurant.  I witnessed many smiles as the little princesses waved to guests as they followed the Disney Princesses through the restaurant greeting and welcoming guests to the hall.
Akershus Royal Banquet HallAkershaus Royal Banquet hall is an excellent opportunity to visit with your favorite Disney Princess. {It only uses 1 table service credit on the Disney Dining plan!}  Lunch and dinner menus have more of an acquired palette. However, children will find traditional favorites like pizza and pasta on their menu.  Be sure to check out the menu here first to see if it fits your family’s taste.  Otherwise, my recommendation would be to book a breakfast here and enjoy traditional favorites like waffles, bacon and eggs.

Character dining is a great way to skip the lines and visit with multiple Disney friends as one time.  If your little one is anxious to meet their favorite Disney Princesses then a meal at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall will be a lasting Disney memory for your family.   Want to know more about character dining opportunities with the Princesses, you can read more in our blog, HERE or contact your Me and The Mouse Travel Specialist for more details.

When you are sailing onboard your Disney Cruise, take time to pamper yourself and make a reservation at the SENSES Spa.  The full service spa includes massages, manicures, pedicures and salon services. Senses Spa

When cruising, I recommend treating yourself to the Rainforest Deluxe Cruise pass.  This fantastic spa package is available on all sailings and includes unlimited access to the scented showers, aroma steam, sauna rooms and private jacuzzis.  Depending on your Disney Cruise ship, you can also enjoy the warm loungers that overlook the ocean (Disney Dream and Fantasy cruise ships) or relax and unwind with the tranquil sounds of water in an exclusive relaxation room (Disney Magic and Wonder cruise ships).  This package also includes scented body scrubs of your choice to use to exfoliate while enjoying the Rainforest showers and saunas.

Senses SpaNo appointments are necessary for you to use your Rainforest Spa package.  Simply check-in with your stateroom key at the front desk.  Your attendant will give you your scented body scrubs and loofa, as well as your Spa bracelet that allows you access to the Rainforest.  Next, you will head to the locker room where you will change into your swimwear and find cotton robes and waterproof sandals (if you didn’t bring your own).  Lockers are available free of charge so you can secure your personal belongings while you enjoy the Rainforest.

On the Disney Dream and Fantasy, the Rainforest Room has the Laconium (a dry sauna), the Caladium (a hot steam room) and the Hammam (a large, tiled steam room that is not as hot than the regular steam room), four scented showers with multiple “rain” programs, numerous heated loungers with views of the sea and two hot tubs on a private deck overlooking the water. Senses Spa

In the Rainforest Room on the Magic and Wonder, there are three tiled saunas, each having a different temperature.  You will find open showers with different scented “rain” programs.  Those amazing, tiled heated loungers are also available to relax, unwind and read a book if you desire.

Rainforest packages are limited and can be purchased for individuals or couples. Pricing varies based on your length of your cruise and passes can be purchased for a single day or for the length of your cruise.   You must be at least 18 years of age to utilize the spa services.

Character Dining is a great way to enjoy an amazing meal, as well as meet and interact with your favorite Disney friends without waiting in line. Character Dining

Our character dining experiences have always been full of treasured memories.  Once, my 6 year old received a marriage proposal from Drizzella at 1900 Park Fare.  Stitch insisted on sitting down and holding my 6 month old son while we enjoyed breakfast at Ohanas’.   And yet another child basked in the glow as Chip and Dale argued over which Chipmunk was more loved by my 12 year-old.

Before you head to your Character Dining reservation, check out our tips for making the most of your character meals.

Autograph Books

  • Bring an autograph book.  You can buy one at your resort or make one before your trip! (Check out the Me and The Mouse Pinterest board for ideas)  Have your autograph book with you at all times.  Your children will love collecting signatures from all their Disney friends.  Some characters have large hands or paws, we a large, chunky pen works great!  Retractable sharpies are my recommendation as you don’t have to keep track of a cap.
  • Have your child write their name inside their autograph book.  Sometimes, characters will look inside and call your child by name!  You will also love looking back and seeing your child’s signature from that year. Character Dining

Photos:

  • Select dining locations will take a family photo before seating you at your table.  The photo will show up in your My Disney Experience account.  Photopass Photographers will not be present when the characters greet you at your table, so you’ll want to have your camera or cell phone to capture your special moment with your favorite Disney characters.
  • The characters will stop at every table (no need to get up and look for them).  A cast member accompanies your Disney friends and helps them navigate the around the restaurant in a well established pattern.  If you miss a character while you are getting food at the buffet, not worry!  Just let your servers know and they will make sure that the character stops by to visit before you are done dining.

Character Interactions:

  • Don’t be afraid to “ham it up” with the characters.  They love it as much as you do.  Show Ariel your dinner fork and ask her about it.  Wear your Mouse Ears when you meet Donald and see what he does.  *Check out our blog for more ideas on unique character encounters*
  • Consider dining at off hours.  the characters will have more time to spend at your table.
  • Seat your children near the aisle so they can get a great picture with their favorites characters.  By sitting near the aisle, your child can move more easily to give a hug, a “high-five” or simply be closer to their special visitor.  This location also makes it easier for the characters to maneuver around. Character Dining

Additional Tips:

  • It’s okay to check in early.  If you are running late, Disney will hold your reservation for about 10 minutes past your reservation time.  Please note that Disney recommends allowing up to 60-90 minutes of travel time within Walt Disney World property and your dining location.
  • Cancel any dining reservations you don’t need!  Most reservations require 24-hrs notice of cancellation.  If you do not cancel within 24-hrs or “no show”, a $10/person fee will be charged to your credit card on file.  Some restaurants require more notice of cancellation and the full cost of the meal may be charged.

Character Dining is just one way to add even more Magic and Memories to your next Walt Disney World vacation.

Looking for a delicious table service meal inside the Magic Kingdom?  Look no further than one our family’s favorite restaurants, Tony’s Town Square.  Inside this charming trattoria located on Main Street USA, you can enjoy your favorite Italian dishes, steaks and delicious desserts.  Tony's Restaurant

The theming of the restaurant centers around the Disney animated classic, Lady and the Tramp.  In the lobby waiting area, children and grown-up kids can enjoy a few minutes of Lady and the Tramp, which plays constantly on the television. Kids can also color Lady and the Tramp coloring sheets while waiting for their table.

The restaurant offers three distinct dining areas.  In the main dining room, guests will love the fountain of the canine couple, Lady and Tramp, that is the focal point of the room.  The main dining room offers comfortable family seating and is reminiscent of a classic New York City, family-owned, Italian eatery.

The sunroom gives you the impression of dining al fresco while you are still indoors with air conditioning!  It’s a bright and cheerful dining area that offers lots of sunlight and a great view of the activities happening on Main Street.

Tony's RestaurantOne of the biggest draws of this Magic Kingdom restaurant is the patio seating area. Tony’s is one of the few table service restaurants that offers an outdoor dining experience.  Specific seating requests can be made at the podium when you check-in.   If you are lucky enough to time your dining reservation just right or have extra time to wait, you can request patio seating and enjoy one of the parades as it moves down Main Street. Tony's Restaurant

The menu is full of delicious Italian dishes, like spaghetti and meatballs, lasagna, chicken parmesan, and cannelloni.  Guests will also find choices such as New York Strip Steak, Grilled Pork Tenderloin and Shrimp Scampi on the menu.  You will want to make sure to make room for dessert too.  Tiramisú, Crème Brûlée and Gelato are just the start of what awaits you for a memory-filled meal at Tony’s Town Square.

Step back into one of your favorite moments from Lady and the Tramp, and enjoy your next meal at Tony’s!

If you headed to the far-east corners of Asia or have plans to explore the savannas of Africa, you will want to stop in Harambe for a delicious meal with your favorite Disney friends at the Tusker House Restaurant as you explore Disney’s Animal Kingdom park. Tusker House at Animal Kingdom

It’s perfect for the entire family!

This character meal is one of our family’s “must-dos” every time we visit Animal Kingdom park.  The meal is hosted by Safari Donald Duck and you will find more Disney friends, typically Daisy, Mickey, and Goofy, all dressed up in their Safari outfits there too.  We have always found the character interaction at this restaurant to be fantastic and not rushed.  The buffet is 1 table service credit on the Disney Dining Plan and advance dining reservations are highly recommended.

Tusker House at Animal KingdomThe Tusker House is a fantastic choice for any family! Their dishes include family favorites, as well as specialty dishes highlighting the flavors of Africa.  On our most recent trip, I was pleasantly surprised to find a large number of gluten-free items displayed on a separate food bar for guests! Like most Disney buffets, you will  find a child-size buffet (although everyone is welcome to partake) full of kids’ favorites such as Mickey waffles, scrambled eggs, tater tots and assorted pastries at breakfast.  Lunch/Dinner for children include macaroni and cheese, drumsticks and corndog nuggets to name just a few choices.  Notable dishes from the adult buffet include salmon filet, prime rib, seafood stew, and Cape Malay curry chicken.

Add the Tusker House to Your Itinerary!

My family loves to start their adventure at Animal Kingdom park with a delicious fun-filled breakfast at the Tusker House.  If you are looking for a character meal with your favorite Disney friends in a unique setting, with a terrific variety of foods, then we recommend adding the the Tusker House restaurant to your itinerary! Tusker House at Animal Kingdom
