Mother’s Day has always held a special place in my heart with memories of spending quality time with my Mother and Grandmother as well as with my children.  Spending a Mother/Daughter day at Walt Disney World can be fun and exciting.  If you are looking for a unique way to spend Mother’s Day, I will help you explore some traditional and creative ways to give mom the royal treatment.

A fun idea - begin your day by shopping for matching outfits.  You might want to add a new pair of sparkling Minnie Mouse ears to complete your ensemble. You will find so many shopping options at the theme parks or stop in at World of Disney at Disney Springs where you will find a one stop Disney shop. You may want to browse over 100 shops at Disney Springs if shopping is something your mom enjoys.

Next, make a stop at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique located at Disney Springs or Magic Kingdom for some FREE pixie dust to add sparkle to your special day.  Advance reservations can be made for a young princess makeover.

For a true Mother/Daughter experience, indulge in a Character Couture makeover at one of the Disney resort salons. Here you will find a variety of makeover options available for princesses of all ages.  This is a great alternative to the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique because it includes moms. You may select a child or adult makeover package for hair, hair and make-up, or hair, make-up and nail packages.

Now you are all dressed up, you need somewhere to go, so hop on Disney Transportation (or use Disney’s Minnie Van Service) and continue the magic.

Now the stage is set for amazing Mother/Daughter photos throughout the day so be sure to purchase your Memory Maker package in advance or capture your special moments with Disney Fine Art Photography, where you may schedule a photo shoot at any of the Disney Theme Parks or Disney Resorts.  Your personal professional photographer can guide you to the best backdrops. Portrait sessions are available between 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. 7 days a week.  There are many package options for you to choose from.

A popular tradition for Mother’s Day at our house is taking Mom out for brunch.  Various restaurants at Disney Springs are offering special brunches with Mom in mind.  If you are looking for a truly unique experience to add some flair to a popular tradition, you might explore Raglan Road Irish Pub & Restaurant located at Disney Springs which serves traditional Irish dishes and offers live Irish entertainment at The Rollicking Raglan Brunch.

If your mom likes gardening and has a green thumb, be sure to take her to the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival where she can enjoy a creative display of enchanted garden sculptures shaped as her favorite Disney Characters.  She will also find exhibits offering “How-To” garden techniques. Or, if you’re like me and gardening is not your area of expertise, stop by the Festival’s outdoor kitchens and grab a tasty snack while you walk around and enjoy the flowers and topiaries.  Great PhotoPass opportunities can be found here.

If you are looking for adventure, try a horse-drawn carriage ride located at Port Orleans Riverside Resort and enjoy the scenery along the Sassagoula River or visit Fort Wilderness Campground and take in the beauty through the lush pine forest.  Additional fees are required.

Additional ideas could include:

  • Rent a 2 or 4 person surrey bike - Pick your favorite scenery with rentals found at Boardwalk Inn/Villas, Old Key West Resort, Port Orleans or Riverside or Saratoga Springs.

  • Take a break from the hustle and bustle and spend some time lounging at your wonderful Disney resort pool.  It is always nice to wind down while spending time together.

  • Tea Time – enjoy afternoon tea at the elegant Grand Floridian Garden View Tea Room.

  • When it is time for dinner, be sure to book a dining reservation with your favorite princess.  Popular options are Cinderella’s Royal Table at Magic Kingdom, Akershus at Epcot, or Cinderella’s or Happily Ever After Dinner at 1900 Park Fare

  • If your mom is in need of some relaxation, pamper her with a spa treatment at Senses – A Disney Spa located at select Disney resorts.

  • You may just want to plan photo shoots with your favorite Disney characters.  Be sure to get their autographs.

I hope this has given you some fun and unique ways to spend time with your mom at Disney.

When you get home, spend quality time putting together a photo album to enjoy your memories for years to come.  I truly hope you had a magical day!

Advanced reservations are recommended for all dining and many of the options mentioned above.  Contact your Me and the Mouse Specialist for advance planning advice.
