Are you looking for a unique way to create a Father’s Day to remember?  Why not visit Walt Disney World?  Once again, Disney has unique activities for all fathers and sons no matter what their age or interests.  If your dad is not a theme park enthusiast, here are some ideas to make his special day – a day to remember.

Dads and sons who are early risers might want to grab a tee time and play eighteen holes of golf at one of Disney’s Championship golf courses.  If you feel you need to brush up on your game, Disney offers lessons and clinics that will help you perfect your game before venturing out on the course.  Equipment rental is available at each of the courses at Disney.  Try mini golf as an alternative fun version of this sport. Disney offers two mini golf courses as well.

Early risers may also want to immerse themselves in some peace and quiet with a fishing excursion located at a variety of Disney marinas. Fishing excursions include an experienced guide, rod and reel, tackle, artificial and/or live bait, non-alcoholic beverages only plus a one year BASS membership. Various boat rentals are also available at a variety of resorts.

If you love the water, relax at the pool at your resort or for a little extra adventure, head to one of Disney’s water parks – Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon to try a fun slide, a daring water coaster or just spend the afternoon floating in the lazy river. Cooling off in the afternoon at Blizzard Beach might just refresh your day.

Head over to Magic Kingdom and stop by the classic Harmony Barber Shop at Town Square to get a haircut to make sure you both look your best.  Little ones can get a special, “My First Haircut” package which includes commemorative Mickey Ears and a certificate.  Barber Shop stylists are state-licensed cosmetologists.

Once you are done getting spiffed up, consider having a caricature photo drawn of the two of you.  These are done at the parks and at various resorts.  A fun spin on this is to dress in your best pirate attire for your caricature.  Caricatures drawings are so cute and a great souvenir to take home to mom.  Prices vary and can be framed at the time of purchase at an additional cost.  You may want to visit Pirates League in advance to get a pirate make-over for a particularly unique look for your personal caricature.

If you are looking for adventure, head over to Animal Kingdom.  After you enter the park, you and dad can become Wilderness Explorers.  Pick up a handbook and look inside to learn how to earn your badges and pledge to be a friend to all, and, of course, learn the popular Wilderness Explorer Call!  Animal lovers may want to head over to Africa and jump on the Kilimanjaro Safari tour.  If you are hungry, you will find interesting food choices at Animal Kingdom including a Rainforest Café*.

For a memorable dinner, you might consider heading to Disney Springs for many interesting dining locations, including Rainforest Café* or T-Rex*, where you will find a fun atmosphere. Sports enthusiasts might explore Splitsville*(one of my favorites) where you can bowl a game or two and follow up with a great meal.  You will find a variety of great food ranging from pizza to sushi.  My personal favorites here are chicken fingers and loaded French fries with a side of ranch.  Fun fact: Splitsville has the best ranch dressing.

As the sun sets and temperatures cool, if you love the great outdoors, consider heading to Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. Here you will find horseback, pony and wagon rides.  You may want to have dinner at Mickey’s Backyard BBQ* or experience a buffet with no characters at Trails End restaurant.  After dinner, meet Chip and Dale and join them for a sing-a-long by the campfire.

Father and son may want to schedule a Pirates and Pals Fireworks Dessert Voyage in advance and sail the high seas on the Seven Seas Lagoon.  You will enjoy some tasty desserts while you enjoy spectacular fireworks from Magic Kingdom. You might meet a few surprise friends.

As your evening comes to an end, I hope I have challenged your father and son team to explore new adventures.  Who knows, you may even start a new tradition.  Wherever your adventures take you, may you always treasure the father and son moments in your life.  If you need help planning your adventures, ask your Me and the Mouse Travel Specialist.  We will be happy to assist you.  Happy Father’s Day!
