Gaston. According to his song, he’s everyone's favorite guy. But better than the man himself is Gaston’s Tavern and it has become one of my favorite Magic Kingdom snacking hideouts since its opening.
Gaston’s Tavern is located in Fantasyland in the square centered by Gaston’s statue. It offers snacks as well as light meal options which is perfect when you aren’t hungry enough for a complete quick service meal but want something a little bit more than a light snack.
Walking into the restaurant you will first encounter a warm pub atmosphere with wood paneling and barrels filled with LeFou’s Brew. Cozy tables line the far wall where guests make themselves at home. But the hidden gem is the room to the right that brings to life the famous scene in the movie, Beauty and the Beast, where LeFou extols the virtues of Gaston in song. Entering the room you will first notice the stone fireplace topped by a self-portrait of Gaston. To the right sits a massive throne perfect for your host and inviting you to sit and take a picture. The walls are flanked with souvenirs from his many hunting trips and the antler chandeliers complete the quaint atmosphere.
The menu completes the moment when your tastebuds want something but just can’t figure out what you are wanting. The most famous of the menu items is LeFou’s Brew, a frozen apple juice with a hint of toasted marshmallow and topped with all-natural passion fruit-mango foam. Available as a snack credit without the souvenir cup or available for purchase with a souvenir cup, this treat cools you down perfectly on a hot Florida afternoon. Equally famous are the scrumptious pork shanks and the warm cinnamon rolls. The cinnamon rolls are of a shareable size so find your favorite friend or family member before ordering. Be sure to try the Ham, Brie and Grain Mustard Sandwich or the Smoked Turkey, Swiss and Cranberry Aïoli Sandwich. They will satisfy your cravings without leaving you overfilled. Looking for a French pastry to complete your day? Try their Trio of Macarons or the Chocolate Croissant. Gaston isn’t just about the delicacies either. He keeps in his top physical shape by partaking of Hummus and Chips or a Vegetable Cup.
After your meal is finished, be sure to look for Gaston himself who frequently greets guests just outside his restaurant. Be sure to thank him for your meal, as he loves complements, and then pose with your muscles flexed. Once you try Gaston’s Tavern, you’ll be sure to return on your next visit to Magic Kingdom.
