Bon Voyage Breakfast- Trattoria al FornoA relatively new experience, the Bon Voyage Breakfast at Trattoria al Forno is a lovely alternative for  character meals.  Meet two of the most adventurous princesses out there – Ariel and Rapunzel! Accompanied by Prince Eric and Flynn Ryder {Eugene for those that know him well}, no less!  Introduced by royal decree – each couple comes to visit tables and bring adventure to every family!  Sometimes, Ariel may ask you to swim with her like her favorite fishy friends in a conga line!

This restaurant boasts a charming, dark-wood, tile-floor, open kitchen concept everyone is sure to love. The dining room is more intimate, and ordering off menu versus a buffet is a wonderful change of pace!  Every menu item is inspired by The Little Mermaid or Tangled.

Before you start your adventure, each table has a “Bon Voyage Adventure Journal” to fill out. In it, your family will find a place to write down your favorite adventures, your favorite travel companions, and other fun items to commemorate your trip!

Bon Voyage Breakfast- Trattoria al FornoTo start your day, you are given a ‘glass of sunshine’ and an assortment of delicious pastries served in a frying pan {Rapunzel’s weapon of choice}. You can then order your drink of choice {even Mimosas!} and select a fruit cup or parfait.  Both are beautiful and tasty!

Entrées range from eggs to calzones!  Kiddos can enjoy traditional breakfasts if they wish – Mickey Waffles, however, are served as Ariel and Flounder waffles…and they are just as good!  Our family enjoyed a breakfast calzone fit for King Triton, a “tower of pancakes”, and those “Tangled” eggs.  Everything was beautifully served, and tasted delicious. My “Tangled” Eggs were served on top of roasted red potatoes, sun dried tomatoes, and served with bacon. It was scrumptious – Rapunzel would have approved!

Flynn Ryder and Rapunzel visited us first…and of course, Flynn requested a new ‘wanted’ poster.  Then Ariel and Prince Eric came to visit.  I have to admit, Prince Eric was wonderful. He had so much to talk to everyone about and was able to bring most kiddos out of their shell….I guess that’s why Ariel fell in love with him!

Gluten free and allergy options were available – but it is so very important to make your dining reservations with those needs noted, as well as alerting everyone you encounter of your needs at your dining time. All special dietary needs can be met, however it does take a bit longer to prepare! Also, some dishes do not translate completely to the allergen free option.  Keep that in mind!

I LOVED this new experience. It’s calm since you are ordering off menu, the characters can be more interactive, and it felt less ‘busy’ than other meals. I would definitely recommend this breakfast on your next Walt Disney World adventure!

Incredible Restaurant at Disney’s Animal Kingdom ParkYak & Yeti Restaurant at Animal Kingdom

One of the best tips for making the most of your time at Walt Disney World is to stay in the parks for your meals.  While there are many great table service selections in Epcot, Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios, there are only a handful available in Animal Kingdom.  With the new Pandora expansion, more and more guests are wanting to spend time in Animal Kingdom so a table service meal inside the park is usually the best way to have a meal break without wasting time traveling to another part of Walt Disney World. I’m introducing you to one of my favorite spots to grab a bite to eat – Yak & Yeti!

Nestled in the Asia section of Animal Kingdom lies one of the most overlooked restaurants in all of Walt Disney World: The Yak & the Yeti. This restaurant is often overshadowded by Tusker House. However, this table service restaurants has one of the most diverse and delicious menus of any restaurant on property.  Since there are two Yak & Yeti locations within Animal Kingdom park {one table service and one counter service}, most guests think if you’ve experienced one, you have experience both, but that could not be further from the truth.  Yak & Yeti Restaurant at Animal Kingdom

Walking into this gorgeous, two-story restaurant, you immediately feel engrossed in the culture of Asia.  The Asian art and artifacts in this environment get you prepped and ready for the amazing meal you are about to have.  Yak & Yeti Restaurant at Animal Kingdom

We were seated in the quiet second story of the restaurant, and our friendly waiter greeted us! She offered several helpful suggestions!  Our tabled ordered the teriyaki chicken and the steak and coconut shrimp for our entrees and neither disappointed.  Both dishes had an Asian flair without being “too much” for the picky eater in your family.

Yak & Yeti Restaurant at Animal Kingdom

The real star of the show at Yak & Yeti was dessert.  Our table ordered the chocolate cake with raspberry sauce and the fried wontons! The cake was great! However, I cannot imagine this meal without the fried wontons. They were sweet cream cheese filled wontons on skewers with fresh pineapple, drizzled with honey-vanilla yogurt, strawberries and a side of vanilla ice cream. I can say it was  absolutely heavenly and so refreshing. It made for the perfect treat on an unbearably hot day.  If you are dining at Yak and Yeti, you cannot miss the fried wontons.

Yak & Yeti Restaurant at Animal Kingdom Yak & Yeti Restaurant at Animal Kingdom

The service and food were absolutely outstanding, but this meal is also a great value.  With prices ranging from $16 per plate, this is a great value if you are paying out of pocket.  Yak and Yeti is one credit on the Disney Dining Plan for one beverage, an entrée and a dessert.  Next time you are at Animal Kingdom, consider giving Yak and Yeti a try.  You will not regret it!

At Disney’s California Adventure

Looking for something a little special to do while you’re at Disneyland in California?  The World of Color Dining Package is definitely something you’ll want to do.  The World of Color show is the most impressive and fanciful nighttime extravaganza Disney has ever produced.  It’s accompanied by momentous music as well as stunning fire, fountain, fog and laser effects.  Not only will you get a reserved viewing location, but you’ll also be treated to delicious food at one of the three restaurants that offer this package.

First, start off by selecting the restaurant you’d like to eat at.  There are three different restaurants with the World of Color Dining Package.

  • Ariel’s Grotto
  • Carthay Circle Restaurant
  • Wine Country Trattoria

World of Color Dining PackageAt each of these restaurants, you’ll enjoy a full-service, 3-course meal during lunch and/or dinner plus a non-alcoholic beverage.  The restaurant that we selected was Ariel’s Grotto.  We were able to choose from a soup or salad and had a variety of options for our main meal, including a surf and turf option.  To end the meal, we were each brought out a dessert with a sampling of three different types of desserts.  The food was amazing and was just what we needed to continue our day at the park until it was time for the show.

When it was time to get ready to view the World of Color, we headed to our reserved viewing area.  We were ushered down to our choice of unobstructed viewing area.  Once the show began, it was amazing.  It was nothing like we had ever seen before.  To create the approximately 19,000 square-foot projection screen, nearly 1,200 fountains shoot water 200 feet into the air. Watch the water dance and the perfectly timed pyrotechnics explode!

As the show’s extraordinary elements are woven into a kaleidoscope of imagination, the spectacle sweeps and expands across Paradise Bay, while the astonishing soundtrack lifts your spirits, spanning decades of Disney movies―from the classics to the most recent releases.

World of Color Dining Package

This package is something our family will definitely be doing again during our next visit!  A word of caution when selecting your viewing area for the World of Color Show, the closer you stand to the water, the more likely it is that you’ll get a little wet!

Are you ready to experience this one-of-a-kind show?! Contact a Me and The Mouse agent today to book your next Disney Destination Vacation Package!

It happens to all of us.  We LOVE a certain movie, animated feature, or Disney Channel show…and there’s that one character that has stolen our hearts.  We dream of traveling to Walt Disney World to meet our favorite character…and when we arrive, that character is nowhere to be found!  Don’t fret!

Tips to help you find your favorite character

{if they make appearances} or to cope with not seeing them!Tips for Finding Favorite Characters

  1. Use the My Disney Experience app!  Your FREE app on your mobile device lets you find characters throughout the Walt Disney World property.  Agent Missy gives you a step by step on this process HERE.

  2. Use our Character Dining blog – hard to meet characters can be found at our Character Dining locations, plus we are able to meet several characters at one location.

  3. Hollywood Studios tends to have the newest characters from the most recently released movies to meet and greet!  Checking this park out is a MUST if you have a recent character in mind!

  4. Visit an attraction or show based on the movie/tv show you love!  While you may not get up close and personal with them, you will get to see them in real life! Tips for Finding Favorite Characters

  5. Visit during one of our special holiday parties!  Both Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party AND Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party have special characters you cannot meet anywhere else!  {We’re looking at you, Jack Skellington and Sally!}

  6. Open a Disney Visa card with Chase! With special designated character meet and greet locations at both Hollywood Studios and Epcot, you never know what character will show up!

  7. Become friends with a Disney Vacation Club member!  Occasionally, DVC members will get special invites to DVC only parties where special and rare characters come out to greet!  Tips for Finding Favorite Characters
  8. Why not try a new destination?  Keep in mind, Disneyland on the West Coast has meet and greet for characters that Walt Disney World doesn’t (Marvel characters, Judy Hopps, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, etc).  Maybe you’ll find who you are looking for in a new location!

Asking guest relations would be your best bet in finding your beloved character after you’ve exhausted the above options.

Tips for Finding Favorite CharactersI met Robin Hood, Prince John, Little John, and Friar Tuck when I was 7…while dining in Cinderella’s Castle.  Yes, in 1987, those were the characters at the castle!  Skip forward to the 2010s…those are the characters my kiddo has been dying to meet.  While we haven’t been able to nail them down yet, we are hopeful we will in the future as they have been at special events around property.

The most important thing, however, is to NOT let this ruin your trip!  You’ll make magical memories with anyone you meet.  Enjoy your vacation!

{Or if it’s your first trip in a long time!}

I recently took my family on a mini vacation to an amusement park.  I had not been there since I was a child.  While I have planned 100’s of Disney vacations planning this destination for my family gave me a reality check to how my clients feel when they are planning for a first {or first time in a really long time} visit to Disney World! Today, I’m sharing my answers to the top questions I receive from first time guests or guest that are trying to get back into the swing of planning a Disney World Vacation.

Top 10 Questions From First Time Disney World Guests

  1. Why Use a Me and the Mouse Travel Specialist?  I kind of joked with my husband that I wish I had a “me” to call when planning our trip to Cedar Point.  I had questions and spent hours searching for answers online.  The team at Me and the Mouse Travel is a wealth of information regarding Disney and Universal not only can we answer any question that you can come up with but we will save you that time you would have spent researching or on hold waiting to find out answers. If you’re a first time guest to Disney, Me and the Mouse would love to help iron out details and explain anything! We love serving our families!
  2. Walt Disney World 101: First Time GuideWhen should I start planning my Disney Vacation?  I recommend starting your planning 6-12 months out if you have the luxury to do so.  With giving yourself plenty of time to plan you set your family up to:
    • Get the best price on your vacation package
    • Acquire the dining reservations you desire
    • Better room availability to choose from
    • Best selection to choose from for your fastpasses
  3. When do I need to make dining reservations?  180 days from the day you check in!  Yes, 6 months out.  I often hear how will I know what I want to eat 6 months out?  Your Me and the Mouse agent can help you with this we all have eaten at most of the restaurants on property and offer recommendations based on what we think your family will enjoy.
  4. What are FastPasses?  Fastpasses are pre-set up time slots where you can go to an attraction or show and not have to wait in the standard line but you go through a FastPass cue.  There is not an extra cost for the FastPass.  You start off with 3 FastPasses per day.  Then you can add another from the My Disney Experience app on your phone.  If you are staying at a Disney resort you can pre pick out your FastPasses 60 days before you arrive.  If you stay off property you can still pre-pick out FastPasses but it is only 30 days out.
Walt Disney World 101: First Time Guide
  5. What are Magic Bands?  When staying at a Disney resort you will receive a Magic Band which is a colorful wristband with a Mickey Logo on it.  The Magic Band links all your vacation choices on your wrist.  The Magic Band is your room key, park tickets, fastpasses, dining plan, Memory Maker, and you can use it to make purchases while on Disney property. The name says it all – it’s pretty magical!
  6. What is at Disney World?  Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom, 2 water parks {Typhoon Lagoon & Blizzard Beach}, Disney Springs, 3 championship golf courses, and close to 30 different resort options.  There are also more delicious dining spots than you can count, a wide variety of shops, and a countless amount of picture perfect locations. We’re kinda in love with this place, and we have a feeling you will be too!
  7. How do I get around while on Disney property?  Disney World expands over 40 square miles!!!  Disney provides transportation everywhere on property via bus shuttles, monorails, and water taxi’s. If you plan to road trip to Disney, there are also different parking lots and garages to accommodate you.
  8. What is Disney’s Dining Plan(s)? Disney has 3 different meal plans that your family can choose from: Quick Service Meal Plan, Disney Dining Plus (most popular), and the Deluxe Dining plan.  What I find great about adding this option onto my package is that my meals at Disney are now taken care of and at a discounted price then if I had not used the dining plan!  Your dining plan becomes active the day that you check in and ends at midnight the day you check out. {Read our blog about the 2017 Dining Plans: HEREWalt Disney World 101: First Time Guide

  10. How will I get to and from the airport to my resort?  If you fly into Orlando International Airport {MCO} you will be able to ride Disney’s Magical Express directly to your resort. This transportation service is complementary with your package. As a mom of 4, my favorite part of the Magical Express, they pick up your checked luggage from the airport and deliver it directly to your room within 3 hours of landing! {Make sure to take anything you are going to need during that time on your carry on.}

A Holiday Classic the Whole Family will LOVE!

We’re so excited to share that 2017 Candlelight Processional Dinner Packages at Epcot are now available for purchase!! We love the holidays and Disney, so when you put them together something magical is bound to happen! The Candlelight Processional is an Epcot favorite as it showcases the traditional story of Christmas in a unique Disney way. It includes a celebrity narrator, a 50-piece orchestra and a mass choir {and don’t forgot the DINNER!}

Disney is welcoming a few new faces to the narrator spotlight this year, but we don’t think you’ll be disappointed in the slightest {you might actually be jumping up and down!!}. These narrators include Daytime Television Legend Pat Sajak and TV star CCH Pounder, who was also at the grand opening of Pandora – The World of Avatar.

There will be some familiar faces joining the Processional including television, film and stage superstar Neil Patrick Harris, country music star Trace Adkins, and Contemporary Christian music artist Jaci Velasquez.

Disney has confirmed the following narrators, so far*:

Handle the Crowds Like a Pro
& Experience All Pandora Offers!

Pandora: The World of AvatarWhether you loved the movie, hated it or have no clue what it’s even about, Pandora: The World of Avatar is a “must experience” land. All Disney guests should be sure to visit it during their vacation.  The breathtaking scenery, attractions, food and merchandise are bringing in guests by the millions, which means you better go with a plan!  After attending the grand opening of this new land in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, here are some tips to be able to experience all it has to offer.

Tip #1

Plan on going during the Extra Magic Morning Hours at Animal Kingdom.  Since the hours are for resort-guests only, you will have the least crowded hour in the park before it opens to all guests. This will be one of your best times to visit the World of Avatar. If you are taking Disney transportation, plan on being on the very first bus, which departs the resort 45 minutes prior to park opening.

Tip #2

Reserve your Fastpasses 60 days out from your check in date if you are staying at a Disney Resort Hotel.  Since there are two options for Fastpasses in this land and you can only pick one to Fastpass, I recommend Avatar Flight of Passage.  This ride has had wait times up to five hours since opening, so having a Fastpass for this attraction is like having a golden ticket.  If you have a morning Fastpass reserved for this ride, go ahead and get in the standby line for the Na’vi River Journey.  If you are there for the Extra Magic Hours, you will not wait in this line for more than 20 minutes.  Pandora: The World of Avatar

Tip #3

Explore! Once you have ridden the two attraction in this land, take the time to explore and take photos.  Never have I ever felt a part of a movie like I have here.  Every detail is carefully crafted and more than worth exploring.

Tip #4

Find the Photopass Photographers!  The photo opportunities in this land are countless and one is more amazing than the next.  You can get a standard shot of your family with the floating mountains in the background and you can even get magic shots featuring flying Banshees and other characters native to this land.  Use your My Disney Experience app to locate photographers and make sure you purchase Memory Maker so you can download all of your photos. Pandora: The World of Avatar

Tip #5

Head over to the Situ’li Canteen to get some much-needed sustenance after a busy morning exploring this other world.  With create-your-own rice bowls and other healthy alternatives, the Situ’li Canteen is a great place to take a break and have a meal or a snack before heading back to Earth. You can read more about the Canteen, HERE! The World of Avatar has several tasty places you can try, but we love Situ’li!

The Pandora ExperienceOn May 27, 2017 (The opening day for Pandora) lines for the rides were 250+ minutes.  Thankfully, we are Walt Disney World Annual Pass Holders.  We had the opportunity to sign up for an EXCLUSIVE Pass Holder Preview that took place a week before the land opened to the public.  WHAT AN INCREDIBLE EXPERIENCE. The “land” is like none other at Walt Disney World. As soon as you step in, you feel as if you are on another planet or 4.4 light years away.   We were able to explore the “planet” and ride both The Flight of Avatar and The Na’vi River Journey without a wait.  You will be entertained on your way to the ride. As the line queues themselves are full of incredible sites.

The Flight of Avatar begins with a process in which an “Avatar” is made for each rider.  This will link you to a “Banshee” in order ride and become a part of the movie. You do have to be a certain height to ride so our 2 year old daughter could not come along.  Mooma (grandma) stayed with her as she is typically not a thrill rider.  Once we got off, we were so amazed that we told mom she NEEDED to do it! When will she have the opportunity to just walk right on again?!?!?! To her own surprise, she ENJOYED it. She did admit to having her eyes closed 20% of the time but is thankful we encouraged her to ride. You can find out more about this specific ride, here!

The Pandora Experience

The family friendly, Na’vi River Journey was nothing short of a spectacle of light, colors and sound.  For those Disney enthusiasts, think riding a boat much like the ones in Small World or The Land but through a bioluminescent forest full of creatures, sounds and plants featured in the movie. Yes, it is as dreamy as it sounds. Want to see more pictures and learn more about this incredible journey, here!

The Pandora Experience

As we finished the rides, Orlando finally received some MUCH NEEDED rain. We were “trapped” inside the gift shop for quite some time where we stocked up on all types of souvenirs.   We of course had to buy the exclusive pass holder pin (they had shirts as well), an ornament (we buy ornaments on every vacation), and we even got to bring home our very own Banshees.

Because of the rain, we did not get to fully explore the land and everything it has to offer. However, the sites are INCREDIBLE! It is a photographer’s dream. Our camera was full of photos of the gorgeous landscape. Even if we don’t score fast passes for our next trip, we will spend some time seeing everything there is to offer.  I’ve been told the food and drinks are also OUT OF THIS WORLD. You can read more about one of the quick service dining experiences, here!

Quick Service Dining at Pandora – The World of AVATAR

The Satuli Canteen is a the Quick Service Dining location in Pandora:  The World of Avatar.  It has a unique menu of healthy dishes to satisfy all travelers exploring the Valley of Mo’ara on Pandora.
Situated between the Flight of Passage and the Na’vi River Journey,  this former RDA (Resource Development Administration) mess hall is now a peaceful resting spot adorned with the art of the Na’vi and supplying travelers with all the comforts of home.  Travelers will find cuisine inspired by their journey through the Valley of Mo’ara.  Satuli Canteen is considered a fast-casual restaurant on the Quick Service Dining Plan. Our meals were served off a china bowls, reminiscent of flora of the natural habitat.  Guests will find silverware to dine with, as well as indoor and outdoor seating.  Self-serve drink stations are also available.

Pandora: The World of Avatar Quick Service RestaurantSince I do not have an adventuresome palette, I was hesitant that I would find a meal that I would enjoy.  I was pleasantly surprised to find multiple offerings for even the pickiest of diners.  The “Create Your Own Satu’li Bowl” seemed to be the most popular choice. Visitors first choose their PROTEIN, which include beef, chicken, fish or tofu.  Next, you choose your BASE (vegetable salad, potato hash, mixed whole grain and rice or Romaine and Kale salad).  Step 3 is to select your sauce:  charred onion chimichurri, black bean vinaigrette or creamy herb dressing.  I recommend the Creamy Herb Dressing.  The Steamed “Pods” Bao Buns were also very flavorful.  Guests will want to make room for “Ber’ri” (dessert) as the Chocolate Cake and Blueberry Cream Cheese Mousse were both highlights of this dining adventure. Pandora: The World of Avatar Quick Service RestaurantPandora: The World of Avatar Quick Service Restaurant

For young guests traveling the valley, there’s an option of grilled chicken or beef, fish or tofu with greens or rice; cheese quesadilla, a hot dog wrapped in Parker House dough; or a steamed “pod” (cheeseburger bao bun).

Pandora: The World of Avatar Quick Service Restaurant

Satuli Canteen is the first fast-casual restaurant to offer Mobile Order, a new convenient option to order and pay for meals on-the-go within the My Disney Experience app.  Guests will be able to bypass the queue to order when they arrive at the restaurant. Using the app, guests can select menu items, customize their order and pre-pay for their meal with a credit card. When they arrive at the restaurant they will tap an “I’m here” button in the app, which will notify the kitchen to prepare the meal. Guests will be notified through the app to pick up their meal at a specific window.   While Satu’li Canteen is on the Disney Dining Plan, the Mobile Order only accepts credit card payments at this time. Pandora: The World of Avatar Quick Service Restaurant

Satuli Canteen is one of the best overall counter service restaurants at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. With a great variety of options allowing guests to customize their dishes, there is something for everyone at this a former RDA commissary.
