Bon Voyage Breakfast- Trattoria al FornoA relatively new experience, the Bon Voyage Breakfast at Trattoria al Forno is a lovely alternative for  character meals.  Meet two of the most adventurous princesses out there – Ariel and Rapunzel! Accompanied by Prince Eric and Flynn Ryder {Eugene for those that know him well}, no less!  Introduced by royal decree – each couple comes to visit tables and bring adventure to every family!  Sometimes, Ariel may ask you to swim with her like her favorite fishy friends in a conga line!

This restaurant boasts a charming, dark-wood, tile-floor, open kitchen concept everyone is sure to love. The dining room is more intimate, and ordering off menu versus a buffet is a wonderful change of pace!  Every menu item is inspired by The Little Mermaid or Tangled.

Before you start your adventure, each table has a “Bon Voyage Adventure Journal” to fill out. In it, your family will find a place to write down your favorite adventures, your favorite travel companions, and other fun items to commemorate your trip!

Bon Voyage Breakfast- Trattoria al FornoTo start your day, you are given a ‘glass of sunshine’ and an assortment of delicious pastries served in a frying pan {Rapunzel’s weapon of choice}. You can then order your drink of choice {even Mimosas!} and select a fruit cup or parfait.  Both are beautiful and tasty!

Entrées range from eggs to calzones!  Kiddos can enjoy traditional breakfasts if they wish – Mickey Waffles, however, are served as Ariel and Flounder waffles…and they are just as good!  Our family enjoyed a breakfast calzone fit for King Triton, a “tower of pancakes”, and those “Tangled” eggs.  Everything was beautifully served, and tasted delicious. My “Tangled” Eggs were served on top of roasted red potatoes, sun dried tomatoes, and served with bacon. It was scrumptious – Rapunzel would have approved!

Flynn Ryder and Rapunzel visited us first…and of course, Flynn requested a new ‘wanted’ poster.  Then Ariel and Prince Eric came to visit.  I have to admit, Prince Eric was wonderful. He had so much to talk to everyone about and was able to bring most kiddos out of their shell….I guess that’s why Ariel fell in love with him!

Gluten free and allergy options were available – but it is so very important to make your dining reservations with those needs noted, as well as alerting everyone you encounter of your needs at your dining time. All special dietary needs can be met, however it does take a bit longer to prepare! Also, some dishes do not translate completely to the allergen free option.  Keep that in mind!

I LOVED this new experience. It’s calm since you are ordering off menu, the characters can be more interactive, and it felt less ‘busy’ than other meals. I would definitely recommend this breakfast on your next Walt Disney World adventure!

At Disney’s California Adventure

Looking for something a little special to do while you’re at Disneyland in California?  The World of Color Dining Package is definitely something you’ll want to do.  The World of Color show is the most impressive and fanciful nighttime extravaganza Disney has ever produced.  It’s accompanied by momentous music as well as stunning fire, fountain, fog and laser effects.  Not only will you get a reserved viewing location, but you’ll also be treated to delicious food at one of the three restaurants that offer this package.

First, start off by selecting the restaurant you’d like to eat at.  There are three different restaurants with the World of Color Dining Package.

  • Ariel’s Grotto
  • Carthay Circle Restaurant
  • Wine Country Trattoria

World of Color Dining PackageAt each of these restaurants, you’ll enjoy a full-service, 3-course meal during lunch and/or dinner plus a non-alcoholic beverage.  The restaurant that we selected was Ariel’s Grotto.  We were able to choose from a soup or salad and had a variety of options for our main meal, including a surf and turf option.  To end the meal, we were each brought out a dessert with a sampling of three different types of desserts.  The food was amazing and was just what we needed to continue our day at the park until it was time for the show.

When it was time to get ready to view the World of Color, we headed to our reserved viewing area.  We were ushered down to our choice of unobstructed viewing area.  Once the show began, it was amazing.  It was nothing like we had ever seen before.  To create the approximately 19,000 square-foot projection screen, nearly 1,200 fountains shoot water 200 feet into the air. Watch the water dance and the perfectly timed pyrotechnics explode!

As the show’s extraordinary elements are woven into a kaleidoscope of imagination, the spectacle sweeps and expands across Paradise Bay, while the astonishing soundtrack lifts your spirits, spanning decades of Disney movies―from the classics to the most recent releases.

World of Color Dining Package

This package is something our family will definitely be doing again during our next visit!  A word of caution when selecting your viewing area for the World of Color Show, the closer you stand to the water, the more likely it is that you’ll get a little wet!

Are you ready to experience this one-of-a-kind show?! Contact a Me and The Mouse agent today to book your next Disney Destination Vacation Package!

{Or if it’s your first trip in a long time!}

I recently took my family on a mini vacation to an amusement park.  I had not been there since I was a child.  While I have planned 100’s of Disney vacations planning this destination for my family gave me a reality check to how my clients feel when they are planning for a first {or first time in a really long time} visit to Disney World! Today, I’m sharing my answers to the top questions I receive from first time guests or guest that are trying to get back into the swing of planning a Disney World Vacation.

Top 10 Questions From First Time Disney World Guests

  1. Why Use a Me and the Mouse Travel Specialist?  I kind of joked with my husband that I wish I had a “me” to call when planning our trip to Cedar Point.  I had questions and spent hours searching for answers online.  The team at Me and the Mouse Travel is a wealth of information regarding Disney and Universal not only can we answer any question that you can come up with but we will save you that time you would have spent researching or on hold waiting to find out answers. If you’re a first time guest to Disney, Me and the Mouse would love to help iron out details and explain anything! We love serving our families!
  2. Walt Disney World 101: First Time GuideWhen should I start planning my Disney Vacation?  I recommend starting your planning 6-12 months out if you have the luxury to do so.  With giving yourself plenty of time to plan you set your family up to:
    • Get the best price on your vacation package
    • Acquire the dining reservations you desire
    • Better room availability to choose from
    • Best selection to choose from for your fastpasses
  3. When do I need to make dining reservations?  180 days from the day you check in!  Yes, 6 months out.  I often hear how will I know what I want to eat 6 months out?  Your Me and the Mouse agent can help you with this we all have eaten at most of the restaurants on property and offer recommendations based on what we think your family will enjoy.
  4. What are FastPasses?  Fastpasses are pre-set up time slots where you can go to an attraction or show and not have to wait in the standard line but you go through a FastPass cue.  There is not an extra cost for the FastPass.  You start off with 3 FastPasses per day.  Then you can add another from the My Disney Experience app on your phone.  If you are staying at a Disney resort you can pre pick out your FastPasses 60 days before you arrive.  If you stay off property you can still pre-pick out FastPasses but it is only 30 days out.
Walt Disney World 101: First Time Guide
  5. What are Magic Bands?  When staying at a Disney resort you will receive a Magic Band which is a colorful wristband with a Mickey Logo on it.  The Magic Band links all your vacation choices on your wrist.  The Magic Band is your room key, park tickets, fastpasses, dining plan, Memory Maker, and you can use it to make purchases while on Disney property. The name says it all – it’s pretty magical!
  6. What is at Disney World?  Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom, 2 water parks {Typhoon Lagoon & Blizzard Beach}, Disney Springs, 3 championship golf courses, and close to 30 different resort options.  There are also more delicious dining spots than you can count, a wide variety of shops, and a countless amount of picture perfect locations. We’re kinda in love with this place, and we have a feeling you will be too!
  7. How do I get around while on Disney property?  Disney World expands over 40 square miles!!!  Disney provides transportation everywhere on property via bus shuttles, monorails, and water taxi’s. If you plan to road trip to Disney, there are also different parking lots and garages to accommodate you.
  8. What is Disney’s Dining Plan(s)? Disney has 3 different meal plans that your family can choose from: Quick Service Meal Plan, Disney Dining Plus (most popular), and the Deluxe Dining plan.  What I find great about adding this option onto my package is that my meals at Disney are now taken care of and at a discounted price then if I had not used the dining plan!  Your dining plan becomes active the day that you check in and ends at midnight the day you check out. {Read our blog about the 2017 Dining Plans: HEREWalt Disney World 101: First Time Guide
    • Quick Service Dining Plan
      • 2 quick service meals per person {This includes 1 entrée or 1 complete combo meal, 1 beverage.}

  10. How will I get to and from the airport to my resort?  If you fly into Orlando International Airport {MCO} you will be able to ride Disney’s Magical Express directly to your resort. This transportation service is complementary with your package. As a mom of 4, my favorite part of the Magical Express, they pick up your checked luggage from the airport and deliver it directly to your room within 3 hours of landing! {Make sure to take anything you are going to need during that time on your carry on.}

Taking a vacation at sea does not mean it will be a vacation without your daily gourmet coffee. Disney Cruise Line has the Cove Café, which is an adult only location on each of their cruise ships which offers gourmet coffees such as lattes, cappuccinos, espressos and hot tea. One of my favorite ways to start the day on a Disney Cruise is to stop in and grab a pastry and an Americano. This is also a great place to try something different from your typical routine! You can find the Cove Café, on the Disney Magic and Wonder, on Deck 9, and if you’re on the Dream and Fantasy, it is located on Deck 11 adjacent to the adult pool.

Cove Café - Disney CruiseThe Cove Café isn’t just for morning coffee and breakfast treats. You can visit it all day long for different delightful treats! Throughout the day, they offer snacks and desserts as well as light hors d’oeuvres prior to dinner.  It is also a great way to end the day with their full bar service in a quiet setting.

The Cove Café is the ideal place for any adult looking for a quiet space to relax. This is the perfect place to visit and watch the news, read the newspaper or log into the internet. Outside are comfy cushioned chairs that make the perfect spot to enjoy a warm day and curl up with a good book.

If you’re on the Wonder, the Outlook Café is located upstairs from the Cove Café. This is the perfect spot to visit when sailing on an Alaskan cruise. The Outlook is surrounded by windows and ideal for watching the scenery and keep a look out for whales while staying warm inside.

It is important to note that beverages are an additional cost, but the food items are complimentary. One tip we can suggest is to pick up the “coffee card”, which entitles you to your 6th coffee free after you purchase 5.

Cheers and happy sailing!

Cruz has joined Lightning McQueen and Mater in Cars Land at Disney California Adventure Park at Disneyland Resort. Cruz’s journey won’t stop there! She will then be taking a summer road trip down to Pixar Place at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort!

Get in on the action, and make sure that you’ve seen the newest Cars movie! In Disney Pixar’s Cars 3, Cruz Ramirez is a top-notch technician at the Rusteze Racing Center. She’s has been assigned to train the team’s talented rookies. Cruz has always wanted to compete in racing, but it isn’t until she meets Lightning McQueen that she realizes that she is still passionate about it. She finally has the chance to see if she’s got what it takes to win.

Don’t forget. You can catch Cars 3 in 3D in theaters, today! Let us know how excited you are for this new film and meet up!

Meeting a Disney LegendWhat makes Disney so magical? The Cast Members! While Disney would still be an amazing place to visit, it’s the cast members who spread the magic to all the millions of guests who visit the parks every year.

For our family, we enjoy meeting cast members and getting to know a little about them and where they come from. These special encounters happen spontaneously throughout the parks and at the resorts and often start with a simple “hello.”

My most favorite cast member of all is Mr. Richard who greets guests at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. I’d seen lots of posts on Facebook of photos with guests, so when I pulled up to the Grand Floridian and saw him standing there, I had to meet him. He is quite literally a Disney celebrity or legend!

We had a wonderful conversation about his life and where he’s been.

Here are just a few of the things I learned about him:

  • Mr. Richard (Gerth) has been a greeter at the Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort since 1991. His wife had passed away the previous year leaving him to wonder, “What will I do now?” He decided to pack up and move to Orlando, and he’s been there ever since!
  • He will be celebrating his 92nd birthday this year!
  • Mr. Richard served in World War II under General Patton! (This is a whole story in itself!)
  • He especially loves escorting brides and helping them with their trains during their weddings at Walt Disney World.
  • A Facebook page was created for him {Check that out, HERE}. He admits he never gets online, but he is happy to pose with guests and enjoys when they share their photos on his page.

Take time to stop for a chat with a cast member. Ask them where they’re from, how long they have been helping to create Disney magic, what their favorite things are. You never know who you’re going to meet and what amazing stories they can share with you. Several Me and The Mouse Agents have worked as Cast Members. They have some great stories and tips from their time working at the Happiest Place on Earth!

Special note: In addition to his truly sweet nature that immediately makes you love him, he is such a classic gentleman! He was happy to take a photograph with me and immediately extended his arm to wrap mine in his. I think that’s what I’ll remember most about our first meeting!

Ready to meet the legend, Mr. Richard? Contact a Me and The Mouse today to book your next trip!

As you may or may not know, Caribbean Beach Resort, a Moderate Resort on Walt Disney World Resort property, has been undergoing some extensive refurbishments and construction over the last few months.  Construction is projected to continue through June 2018 to make way for fabulous new rooms, additional hotel buildings within the resort, new dining experiences, and some other surprise features as well {like deluxe resort quality mattresses}!

Caribbean Beach Updates

While we still encourage our guests to stay at this wonderful resort – to enjoy the ‘cluster’ housing design, great themed pools, and Island feel – we want you to be informed on the most recent updates to this resort.

In May 2017, many building clusters were sequestered from others by way of sidewalk. Other sections of the resort are only accessible by your own car, or by Disney internal bus system.  This is mainly a safety precaution due to heavy machinery working daily.

Wondering about construction noise?  Work typically begins at 9am, and ends at dusk.  Evening work has been pushed to a minimum.  Construction has not been projected to interrupt your family time for sleeping!

Caribbean Beach UpdatesIt might be a little more difficult for travel to the main building {Centertown} for snacks, meals and quick drinks. So, Disney has created a room in each building cluster and designated it as an ‘Island Market’. The Market is staffed by a Cast Member to assist you with bottled drinks, coffee, grab and go style snacks, breakfast muffins and fruit. They are located in Aruba, Martinique, and Jamaica clusters. Coke Free-Style machines have been added to these markets and accept the resort refillable mugs! Some dining plan credits are accepted at these markets, but you will have to verify the dining plan logo.  This convenience has alleviated a lot of headache, and is a great addition to guest service!

Pool parties at the main pool have stepped up the guest interaction!  While not daily, a few characters have been known to show up and host a dance party with our younger guests! Weather permitting, Minnie, Goofy, and Donald have been making sporadic appearances at the main resort pool.  Appearances are not guaranteed, however.

Caribbean Beach Updates

The permanent dining experiences in Centertown are closed for refurbishment. However, a new breakfast buffet is now open at the outdoor eatery. Dining plan quick service credits are accepted.  Food trucks have also been set up around Centertown offering a variety of island inspired dishes for guests to enjoy in lieu of the traditional dining locations at Caribbean Beach Resort.  Room service options are still available as well!

Finally, a nice touch to a client room who just returned from a stay at Caribbean Beach – upon arrival, a gift basket was awaiting them on their bed.  The basket was filled with snacks, cereal and milk, a few drinks, and a Caribbean Beach lunch sized cooler bag.  ***It is unclear if this is a trend we will see in all rooms. This particular room’s view was of heavy construction, and a crane.  ***We cannot guarantee your room will have a gift basket***

Guests are still flocking to this resort, regardless of the construction. Disney is doing an amazing job to accommodate guests and to still provide world-class amenities and services.  We hope your stay at Caribbean Beach is a wonderful one!
