Over 49,000 registrants and 3 days made for an amazing weekend for princes and princesses alike participating in the 2015 Princess Half Marathon weekend at Walt Disney World. From those running in their first race, those running in memory of a loved one, and many enjoying a weekend with friends and family, being a part of this weekend made for Disney memories that every Disney fan should experience at least once in their lifetime.

Registration

Registration for the following year’s Princess Marathon Weekend opens up 7 months in advance. To register for any Disney race, registration spots are now filling within minutes of opening. Be sure to register an account with active.com before the registration date and be online when registration opens or you may not be able to race your chosen event. Have all your information beside you at the time of registration including your credit card information, and proof of time if you wish to enter an estimated half marathon finish time less than 2 hours 45 minutes, including the website link with the proof of time. If you wish to enter the Glass Slipper Challenge which comprises both the 10K and half marathon, there is a specific link for this registration. Entering both the 10K and half marathon separately will not qualify you for the Glass Slipper Challenge Medal.  Registration is also available through designated charities.

Your Walt Disney World Resort Stay

All Walt Disney World resorts are official race resorts for Princess Half Marathon Weekend. The lobby will contain a sign with all the transportation information and hours that you will need to know for both the expo and the races. While runDisney encourages you to book your travel stay directly through them, their discounts are not always the best available for your weekend stay depending on available promotions. Be sure to book with a Me and Mouse Travel agent as they will be able to make sure your stay is giving you the best value for your dollar. Wondering about eating the morning of your race? Your resort quick service restaurant will not be open early before your race, however, there are designated runner bags available for purchase the night before each race.  Be sure to look for these in addition to other great food options that you can store in your room refrigerator for your pre-race breakfast.

Expo

The Princess Half Marathon Weekend expo is as much an event as the race itself. Packet pickup is located in the HP Pavilion Building. The Glass Slipper entrants will not only pick up their race package but also have their picture taken with their bib number. This picture will be used at the end of the half marathon before your Glass Slipper medal is handed out. The most popular booths at the race expo are the New Balance and Dooney and Bourke booths. New Balance offers runDisney specific shoes only available at runDisney races.  You must go online early the morning of the expo to register for a time to return to their booth try on your selected shoes. Both the New Balance Disney shoes and the Dooney and Bourke purses will sell out, and if this is a high priority purchase, be sure to be at the expo the first morning it opens.

What To Do if You Need Medical Attention At Disney

No one wants to think about a medical emergency happening on vacation, but it is better to be prepared. Whenever we travel, I’m always sure to pack a first aid kit which includes bandaids, neosporin, Ibuprofen, and Benadryl. I also like to know where the closest Urgent Care is located.

If you are at the Walt Disney World parks and have a minor medical issue, there are first aid stations located in the park manned by nurses that can assist you. They are available during park hours to provide such things as bandaids and over the counter medications. This allows you to get fixed up and still enjoy your day at the park.sickmickey

Should you need a physician while visiting Disney World, there are Urgent Care centers located just off of Disney property. Just notify a cast member that you are in need of medical attention at the Urgent Care and they will get you on your way. Disney will provide transportation to these facilities. You are able to see a physician and get back to your vacation. Keep in mind there are no pharmacies at the Urgent Care centers so you will still need to located a pharmacy if needed. We experienced a trip to the Urgent Care in 2013. The cast members at our resort were wonderful. We explained the situation and they got us transportation to the Urgent Care eventhough it was ten o’clock in the evening. After our visit, we did need a pharmacy so our cab driver took us to the closest Walgreens. In all our trip took about 90 minutes and my son was feeling better by the next morning.

If you are having a more serious medical emergency, notify one of the cast members and they will call for help or you may call 911 from your cell phone. Disney World has their own paramedic team on property so they can get to you pretty quick and they work closely with the local hospitals. If you call for help yourself, be sure to specify you are on Disney property.

Just remember at the most magical place on earth, emergencies can still happen so be prepared!\

Like most savvy shoppers, when I enter I store I head straight for the clearance rack and begin to shuffle through the sales. With a crazed look in my eye, and my creative spirit, I put together outfits and accessories, and I love to brag how much I did not pay for a particular item.

Now with this kind of shopping mentality, one can imagine how put out I am at Walt Disney World. Sales and discounts seem to be an item few and far between. So, here is Disney’s dirty little shopping secret: all their sale and discount items are sold offsite!

I first experienced this secret last summer when I was visiting during Star Wars Weekends at Hollywood Studios. I was talking to lovely local couple at the Hollywood and Vine. They saw I had purchased a coffee tumbler for my husband for $30. They told me, “You know you can buy that at the Disney Outlet Store for less the half off?” —WHAT!?

Sure enough, I traveled to Disney’s Character Warehouse and there was my coffee tumbler for $11. A part of me died a little on the inside, but lesson learned. There was a little bit of everything in the store; including but not limited to: shirts, hats, home décor, past season items, Bandits, shoes, pins, almost everything you would find at Walt Disney World.Disney-Store-Exterior-2-web

There are two locations I would recommend:

Character Warehouse-Orlando Premium Outlet
4969 International Dr., Orlando, FL 32819
Phone: (407) 354-3255

Character Warehouse-Orlando Premium Outlet
Suite 1252, 8200 Vineland Ave., Orlando, FL 32821
Phone: (407) 477-0222

Since learning my lesson last summer, we visit the outlet stores before arriving at Walt Disney World. Don’t get me wrong, we still purchase items in the park to help us remember our time together as a family. But now my inner cheapskate is also satisfied with our Walt Disney World regalia.

Ahoy, Mateys!! Are you ready to become a ‘scurvy pirate recruit” and help Captain Jack Sparrow find some hidden treasures? Then you’ve come to the right place.  This free interactive treasure hunt lets you encounter five different pirate adventures within Adventureand.   A Pirate’s Adventure was inspired by the ever popular movie, “Pirates of the Caribbean”.

While in Magic Kingdom, make your way to Adventureland.   You’ll pass the Pirates of the Caribbean ride on your left and head toward the Pirates Adventure Building.  When you enter the building, touch your magic band or park ticket (also known as your Talisman) on the kiosk as indicated on the Pirate Adventure screen.pirate

The screen will walk you through on how to start your pirate adventure.  A Disney cast member is never far away if you need assistance.  Be sure to take the correct map and start at the symbol indicated on your screen.  If you happen to grab the wrong map or start with the wrong symbol, on your first mark you will be told to go to another site.  You can always go back to the Pirates Adventure Building to get assistance.

As you work your way through the different interactive destinations, place your talisman on the symbol to activate the area.  Listen and look closely for the clue to your next destination or maybe you’ve found your treasure.

There are several treasure hunts to go on.  Return to the Pirate Adventure building to activate your talisman and retrieve your new map.  You can take as long as you like to complete each adventure.  When you’re finished, keep the map as a free souvenir.

Fear not Matey’s!! The magic contained in your talisman will help you find the hidden treasure and ensure a folly of fun on your pirate adventure.
